Gemini now a Catalina

I saw yesterday a blurb that Gemini Legacy 35 is no longer made by Hunter - they dissolved their partnership arrangement and started one with Catalina late last year.

Good, bad, or makes no difference?

Hunter (Marlow) and Catalina were/are being hired to manufacture the Gemini to Gemini's specs and design. It is really made by Gemini, not them. Manta/Endeavor used to have a similar relationship.

Gemini got a better price to switch to Catalina, which makes one wonder about a boat where Hunter backs out of a race to the bottom…

I suppose that Catalina might have had some drop in sales that opened up some manufacturing time/space that needed filling. Who knows?

Here is hoping Catalina can resolve hull flexing that leaves spider cracks covering every Gemini topside...otherwise its a viable boat I would seriously consider!

I believe this is the same manufacturing location in Largo, Florida on Bryan Dairy Rd. where they were once making Morgans in the 1970's, -like mine.

Really?

Checkout the bridge deck clearance and the 7-lines-to-one-winch deal. The 105MC I see merit in, but the Legacy was simple mistake made for the charter market.


Look at the clearance, light ship, no dingy on the davits.


And all of these to a winch only the helmsman can reach:

• Genoa sheet
• Main halyard
• Genoa halyard
• Spinnaker sheet
• Reef 1
• Reef 2
• Furler
• Vang (needed--note the short traveler)

Love the engine access (the other side is worse)

We have all of our lines (seven) coming back to a single winch only the helmsman can reach.

It works perfectly and we wouldn't want it any other way.

I talked with a rep at the Annapolis Boat Show. He was encouraged that the gelcoat would be better finished.

Personally, I like the pre-hunters better. I would love that boat with twin outboards in wells under the stern steps.

When I spoke to then at the Miami boat show the rep said all that was changing this year was they were going to solid wood interior.

Yes, the person at the helm trims. No other person is necessary.

Hank on headsail, but don't see the problem controlling the sheets if it was a furled one.

The furler code zero sheets lead to a separate winch dedicated to it, so that one isn't included at the helm. However, I don't think it is on the Gemini either.

Not astonishing - highly convenient, usable and practical. It is very nice in the middle of the night to not have to wake the other person to do something as basic as putting a reef in the sail, or tack, or lower the sails for a squall, or raise the sails after a squall, etc.

We have an electric winch also - you can go off on that too, it won't bother me!
