Gemini model differences

I did have a chat with the person who is selling his Gemini in Santa Cruz as he was scrubbing his boat. It looks like he has cleaned it up quite a bit in the two years he has owned it.

I asked him why he was selling it, and he said he was going to buy a bigger monohull with more headroom--he just couldn't get used to the interior. He said it sailed fine (after all the boat is for sale) and the wave slap didn't bother him sailing, but it did slap occasionally at anchor.

The selection of Gemini's in Europe was pretty thin. We were going to ship her over (we have no interest in offshore voyages).

But then the Euro dropped by like 30% and we happened to come across a Catalac 10m for an excellent deal. It just made more sense to buy in Europe.

So far the cruising has been pretty limited. We are waiting (a long time) on the CG documentation, so pretty limited actual on the water experience with her. At this point, we feel the Gemini is more comfortable for living on but some of that may be 8-9yrs of living with her. It's minor things mostly as the layout isn't that much different.

The earlier models are right around 30'.

It's mostly a perceptions thing...up to about 6'2"...after that it is actually an issue.

Everywhere you can stand there is headroom. The only real trick is with the dinet, you quickly learn to do a quick head bob as you sit down or you will hit your head. Once you are seated it's fine.

The perception thing is there are a few places where it looks like you are going to hit your head but at the last moment you step down or sit down.

These GEMINIS went through several upgrades, from the 31, 3000, 3200, 3400. All these GEMI- NIS had the same hull shape with detail changes to the deck and interior. In 1995, after 450 of these early GEMINIS ,we started again with a completely new GEMINI called the 105M. The new GEMINI 105M had completely new hull shapes and styling, however, the time proven layout, rudders, centerboard and sail plan were kept. The new hull shapes were wider for improved load carrying and shallower to raise the center of buoyancy with a modern teardrop shape. Although the overall beam of the boat was the same, the center of buoyancy of the two hulls was further apart. The bows had a near vertical stem giving more buoyancy down low at the bow and a finer entry for wave piercing. The keel was flatter with a 5-degree dead rise at the for- ward section and a flat transom for planing.
Like earlier GEMINIS, the 105M has a solid bridge deck forward for reserve buoyancy and ease of sail handling. The bridge deck has good clearance forward of the mast and a smooth transition to the lowest point of the bridge deck just forward of the cockpit. A lot of thought went into keeping the center of gravity and cen- ter of effort low.
In the year 2000, after 200 boats and five years, it was time to upgrade the 105M. For the 2001 model we made a completely new set of molds for the GEMINI, which we named the 105MC.
For this new model we made a revolutionary new interior mold. This new interior mold went from bow to stern and gunwale-to-gunwale and had the complete interior molded in. This new interior reduced the weight and increased the stiffness of the boat. The other major change was to redesign the cockpit and rear of the cabin so that we could offer a cockpit enclosure that was useable at sea, with 6ft 7in headroom. At the bow we made changes so that a curved screecher track could be installed between the bows and still use the anchor. For 2001, we raised the mast 1 ft and added asymmetric molded centerboards.
