Sounds crazy from here, but I think there are major import duties and taxes that are paid to get them into the country.

Same applies to Australia I believe.

15% import duties made up of 10% GST and 5% import duty for Australia.

Purchase price of $130k
$15k in enhancements to tidy it up and turn it into a half decent cruiser
$20k delivery crew and Panama
Circa ~$190k

If it was a near new one, in theory you'll could get close to $262k to have it delivered.

You don't get a lot in AU/NZ for that much. A tired Seawhinge 1000 or a 15 year old Fountaine Pajot maybe.

The kiwi dollar is at 83cents to U.S. today so that may effect your price and 15% GST for the seller to pay when the boat is sold will push the price up a bit. I am from California and it has been my experience that kiwi's are very patient and will wait for what they think is a fair price for a loooong time. Once a Californian is ready to get rid of something he is ready to move on and will bargain down in a fairly short time. Generalization of course. Joe
