Gemini Catamaran Charter near DC / Annapolis?

I know they used to be made in MD. But the only place I see that charters them does it in more of a "membership" style where you need to pay around $800/mo for 4 days of sailing (1 weekend day + 3 weekday days).

I'm just looking to charter some long weekends every two months or so.

Something larger would be nice too but I think there are several charter companies in the area and would be surprised to learn about one I haven't heard of / one that charges significantly less.

Do any owners charter "on their own" so-to-speak?

There's a couple companies out of Annapolis, but I think they only offer the charters by the week. There have been several peer-to-peer rental companies cropping up lately: cruzin.com, boatbound.co, getmyboat.com. They're so new that I would not yet expect a good inventory of cruising boats, but worth a shot. Good luck!

Sail Away Catamarans, based in Edgewater, charters several of the boats they have listed for sale.

Re: Gemini catamaran charter near DC / Annapolis?

Just did a thorough search on both websites.

Sadly, neither The Catamaran Company or Sail Away Catamarans charter Geminis in Annapolis.

Odd and ironic that the "smallest" fully loaded brand of catamaran, born in Annapolis, is not chartered out of its home town. By "fully loaded" I mean a platform that supports and offers AC, gen, 2 heads, galley, and all the other little bells and whistles to make life comfy-cozy.

It may have something to do with how Gemini (who I think owns or has some kind of vested interest in Sail Time) is managing the sales of the newer boats? IE., you can't charter from Sail Time. You can only sign up for a one year club membership. Unfortunately that doesn't work for me as you're not even guaranteed one full weekend per month.

Re: Gemini catamaran charter near DC / Annapolis?

Hello:

I berth my 2003 St Francis Cat 48' at Pier 7 Marina in Edgewater, MD. Just s. of Annapolis. Sail Away Catamarans have about 20 sailing cats at the docks most of which are available for charter. Ask for Tommy or Amy.

My boat is available for captained charter too.

But if bareboat is your preference inquire about Jammin or June Bug.

Tell them Ralph Hendry of sailing cat Simplicity sent you. I am sure they will hook you up nicely. Nothing in it for me other than a smile.

Happy Sailing,

Ralph Hendry

Thanks. I am aware of SAC and have seen your boat on pier 7. Nice ride.

But I'm looking for something a bit smaller (and less expensive) to charter a bit more frequently during prime sailing season. SAC doesn't have any Geminis. Nor do their smaller bareboat cats have AC.

So I continue to scratch my head or just save up to charter again ... just less often than I'd like. I don't need a 3cabin cat. A 2c Gemini would be ideal for the Chesapeake for me at this time.

I belong to Chesapeake Multihull Association, within which there are at least three Gemini 105 owners. I doubt any one of them are open to chartering out their own boats - even if only because of the insurance complications - but they may know of a situation that will suit you. Also, if I remember correctly, one other member used to advertise his boat for charter in the newsletter. You may need to search the older issues to find that listing. Haven't found anything in the newsletters. Sent an app in for their public yahoo group, but am not sure how else to reach the group and find the people you're mentioning.

Do you have to own a multihull to join the club?

Still no charter love for the Gemini near it's birthplace, Annapolis.

I'm a sad martian. ;-(

I can't even find a reference to "performance catamarans" in Annapolis anymore. Not even in the yellow pages.

Sailtime Annapolis has some in their club program. If you are looking to charter multiple times a season you might want to take a look, I believe they have "lite" memberships or you can split a full membership with a partner or something.
