Gemini 105Mc Performance

Hi

I've just ordered a new Gemini 105Mc and I'm wondering whether I was right to include the screecher - does it really add much to the performance; I wonder whether the extra weight is worth it. Can any owner out there give me a clue as to the sort of cruising speed I can expect with/without the screecher up. Many thanks.

I do not know what the result will be on your Gemini but on our Mahe 36 it gives a massive improvement in speed from 65 to 120 degrees apparent.

The Gemini Yahoo group is fairly active. If you have not already done so, I would suggest asking there.

I like the tack track scheme on the Gemini screecher. According to a Bay Area sailor I talked to who has one, it works quite well and lets you go deep without a pole.

Here is a link to an article about a screecher upgrade to a home built Richard Woods design. The boat is a bit smaller and much lighter than yours, but you might find the information useful.

Adding a Screecher to Your Catamaran

In the end, it probably comes down to the wind in your planned sailing grounds.

Screechers

Hi DtM and Charlie

Many thanks for the advice - very useful. The guy selling me the boat reckons she will sial at 1/2 wind speed on genoa and 2/3 boat speed with the screecher up to about 20 knots of wind which seems a bit optimisiic. the general consensus seems to be an improvement of 2 knots which is still well worth the investment so I will go with it. My family (crew) are not highly experienced so an easy to use light wind/downwind sail should be perfect.

I have, however, heard stories of track breakages due to the tension when sailing upwind so I guess it's best not to push it.
