I'm wondering who was the first catamaran designer and/or production builder to put a retractable transom platform on a cat,...I can't recall?

I really like the idea and placed a retractable fishing chair platform on this gamefishing cat I proposed. I believe it was somewhere around 2007 era that I placed the retractable chair....

Then in 2008 I posted this little sketch of a full width transom platform

In 2011 I ran across this vessel which seems to have a very similar arrangement ...(although I do not know if it was retractable/lift-able)

I like that the trampoline isn't divided by a center beam, and I like the sundeck. But I'm curious how much sundeck lounging is necessary. Is there anyone available to comment on how much they use their sundeck area?

What are the chances the dinghy mechanical lift system could get out of sync and rack to one side causing it to jam or fail?

I like what they did with the helm station to keep the boom height down lower. I was proposing something like that 'recessed' upper helm station on this vessel, even while I only had to have head clearance for a 'loose-footed, wishbone-boomed sail' overhead.


They (FP) have offset to center the helm station, and gotten an even lower profile, pulse limited the interference with the aft deck area below. ....good job.

Good question that I would like to explore more closely as I intend to use same idea on subsequent design of a smaller vessel (40ish) that I wish to keep light weight, simple, and cost effective.

Here is a question I really want to see answered by some first hand test sailors, and in some decent slop conditions. I wonder how much that bridgedeck design is going to slam. It looks as though they have made it pretty low clearance to accommodate those wider berths??

I agree, also serves as a compression beam if you want to install a bowsprit.

How do you reach the anchor chain to attach a bridle with the anchor dropped so far back from the bow? And how do you get access to the anchor if you need to?

I've seen the bridle attached to the bows then lead back to a retainer of some description on the underside of the catwalk, where it can be attached and detached from the anchor chain through a hole. You can then use the bridle to retrieve the anchor from forward of the forward beam or run underneath in the dinghy. Even without the catwalk you could do it on the forward side of the cabin next to where the anchor rests.

I have a Leopard 44. Similar setup. Not an issue. Just have the apex of the bridle permanently attached to the R&C provided attachment point at the anchor locker with a soft shackle. With the anchor deployed, I attach the bridle to the chain with the soft shackle. Works well for me and I assume would work well for this boat as well

Wow, Brian, I think we're growing old together on these forums!

I still have a copy of the fishing cat sketch you posted. I think I owned an F-31 then, and lusted over a cat from which I could fish. Things come full circle...

I like the look of the 47, and must say, it looks like a nice integration of the platform.
