Folding Trimaran in a Shipping Container ?

I'm told that its possible to ship a folding trimaran in a standard shipping container. I'm referring to a Corsair or Farrier that fold to 8'2" I think. Anybody heard of this? The idea is that it would be fairly cheap to ship the boat from the US to Europe or other popular cruising areas as opposed to an ocean crossing.

The Dragonfly 28 might fit.

cancel that -- The DF28 is 8.3 feet and the inside of a shipping container door width is 7'8"

Most F boats are too tall when folded but some can be dismantled. IE my F-31 is 11 1/2 ft tall on the trailer and only a foot off the ground. Dave

Sounds like this idea is not going to fly unless the boat can be broken down to some extent. Seems to me you need some extra space for cushioning and padding; otherwise, the alms are right up against the side of the container and that doesn't seem like a good idea.

Anyone know the exact dimensions of a standard container?

container yachts

Not to spark the multi/mono controversy here, but there are monos that have been designed to ship in standard 40' containers, the most notable of which is the Far Harbor 39, designed by our very own Robert Perry.

Here's a website devoted to "container cruising."

Here's an even less expensive possibility:

I read that Corsair currently ships their boats in shipping containers from Vietnam where they are made, so they definitely fit. I also read that Farrier's F33 & F32 will fit in a standard container. I remember seeing pics of one being put in a container. A tight squeeze, but it fits. Here's some links with pics of an F33 going into a container.

You would need to disassemble the beams from the floats tho. A search of the F-boats Yahoo forum or the Farrier website or even Corsair's will yield several examples.
