ah thats interesting em, our 400 has the halyard fixed to the head. The smaller lanyard is also there and runs to the next car below for tensioning

Is this how your sail is connected Steve. On mine the Halyard is attached to the Head of the sail via the block to the ring, but the head is not directly attached to the top car but via the twofold line.

Dirkdig sums it up well on the flybridge. Bought our 440 in February in Guadeloupe, and sailed around the area for 4 months just the two of us, and occasionally with guests - the feedback is unanimous.

Once you have experienced a flybridge, you won't go back to sitting behind a bulkhead, so if still in doubt, good idea to charter one.

If you're worried about the weather on the flybridge, get a forward screen, or do what we do, wait for the right weather window - that does depend on your cruising style though.
Re: the boom, it's manageable ! (But true, a little bit of a pain, but nothing compared to the advantages of the flybridge)

Our 440's flybridge has been a highlight in our first year. Sure, we don't point as well as some boats ... and are not as fast as some others .... but comfort, flexibility and space trump the speed trade-off for us. Views are great and it lets everyone get involved. A daybed behind flybridge makes it even better !

Yes, sailbag is high ... but a running line on zipper works well (and a small step ladder fits easily in the water tank locker if required).

If you haven't sailed on a flybridge model, I am sure one of your local boats would happily welcome you onboard so you can form your own opinion as everyone's tastes and criteria are different.
