we have been through many times, at both high and low tides. We are 64.5 ' with antenna. Plenty of clearance, if concerned go at low tide.

low tide would be smart. especially during these super tides.

channel 5 is skinny quick outside the channel.

Re: Florida Keys.. Real height of channel 5 and 7 mile bridge ?

Our mast is 65' plus antenna (67.5'). We've gone under both Channel 5 and 7 Mile at tide less than 0.5'. Yes, the SS antenna bends flat. We make sure the paddle boards read 66.5' + before going under.

Snake Creek is another option for Channel 5 if you can't wait for low tide. The uncharted wires at Snake Creek are reported to be 75'. We cleared it by a long way. Snake Creek is ~2 hours up the shallow ICW.

You should be able to tuck into Long Key Bight just to the south of Channel 5 bridge. Good protection for just about any wind direction.

Long Key Bight is very open to easterly winds which are the prevailing winds in the Keys. Holding in most of the bight is very poor due to the dense sea grass and damaging the grass can get you large fines. There is an area to anchor near the causeway just west of the red and green buoys in 4 to 5 feet of water. It's very rolly in strong southerlies. Lots of places to anchor near Channel 5 but you need current charts, watch the weather and be aware of your depths. You do NOT want to run aground in coral or sea grass. Big fines. Chuck

There's a little cove in between the shoals just SE of Fiesta Key. We've anchored there in SW winds of 35 kts. with no chop and also some pretty strong easterly winds and were quite comfortable. With his draft he could navigate pretty far back into Long Key Bight and get good protection from just about any wind direction. You are right, a lot of sea grass so use plenty of scope. We've also anchored on the north side of the bridge just west of Siesta Key. Good protection in an easterly.

Florida Keys.. Real height of channel 5 and 7 mile bridge ?

Just I info on 5 mile from my experience.
We went through with the Southern market showing just sat 66 ft.

My top of wind vane bird spar is right at 66 ft and we just cleared, one crew member swears we touch the spar.

So marker seems accurate. Apps indicated water level was 0.32 ft

But check for yourself

Do you mean the 7 Mile bridge or the Channel 5 bridge?
Thanks.

Channel 5.....sorry for any confusion. First crossing opportunity for larger rigs going south.
