The MC2 60 will have to stay in one piece before it gives anything a run for its money...judging by the TP52 that their china yard built, that might not be easy...

I would take something Jeff designed and Julian built over that in a heartbeat...

My reference to the MC2 60 was simply in the spirit of the thread.

I don't necessarily disagree as I indicated in an earlier post. Julian is one of the best shiprights in Australia.

I have seen very little feed back on vessels from their China yard. Please let us in on the issues with the TP52.

cheers

Isn't being the world's fastest cruiser kinda like being the world's tallest midget?

Re: Fastest cruising cat in the world?

It was apparently doing 22 knots Boat Speed reaching with triple reefed main and slightly furled jib I am informed, weather yesterday was quite strong winds, I am guessing around 25 knots

Good/ideal weather for testing/trialing a vessel.

Re: Fastest cruising cat in the world?

Hi guys,
Thought this thread was worth keeping alive. The MC2 is built by McConaghy Boats in Hong Kong, an Australian boat builder. I believe he built the 2 Yendys, the first one went on to win the Sydney to Hobart in '99, a Farr 49 weighing 6.7 ton and then a 56ft IRC rated boat that has now been sold. Plus many Sydney to Hobart boats that have run the race and done very well.
Is McConaghy the fastest cruising cat out there? We don't know till we see it compete against the other leading designs around the world. But this designer has come up with some incredible mono-hull designs, that have won races and still winning around the world. We're yet to see a McConaghy MC2 60 come up against an Outremer, G-Force or a Gunboat of similar size, but they are definitely lighter with a big sail plan. So the jury is still out till we see them compete against each other, but we all look forward to seeing how they go.

Re: Fastest cruising cat in the world?

Hi Mike,
She is a very sexy cat. It would be nice to see a 60ft super cat race amongst the main contenders in the world. Maybe now the Americas cup is all catamarans and people are more focusing on developing fast cats, it might even happen in the next 10 years as we are getting more contenders in the fast cat field in the 60ft range. Let's hope they read this thread and put together a world class race somewhere for the big fast high tech cruising cats. I'm sure the winner would get some orders.

Re: Fastest cruising cat in the world?

It would be fun to see it but I would prefer more comfort for long term cruising
