FastCat 455 new longer and slimmer bows
I have attached a picture of the New Bow of the Fastcat 455 , the new stern will follow .
The bow is almost plump and it is a sacrificial bow , in other words if you hit someting very hard it may break but you or the boat will not and it is replacable The front has a width of 8 mm or 1/3 of an inch to decrease the spray we were getting at 15 knots and more Resistance will also be a little less with a waterline lenght of 1 fr 2 in extra greetings and good weekend |

p.s I stated this tread to let others know how easy it is to lenghten the bow of a cat if the bow has a thick intake and you want to increase the waterline.
Both will decrease resistance and make the boat a dryer boat to sail. If anybody want info let me know. Greetings Gideon |

Would be nice if you can show a "before" picture also! What is the prismatic coefficient before and after? Regards Alan |

Hallo Alan
I do have the final drawing on my laptop but this one is almost like the final extension The waterline lenght extension is 345 mm and the top is 184 mm The old bow had a radius on the waterline of 65 mm and the new one 8 mm. We where getting to much spray and that was the mean reason for changing it but extending the waterline and decreasing resistance was also attractive to me How is your Bi rig coming along ? Good luck Greetings |

Thanks Gideon,
I like the new bows, but am not so keen on what seems like a drop on the deck towards the bows. I would consider raising it a bit to fit the lines of the boat further aft. This is just an opinion, and beauty is in the eye of the beholder.... I see that your transoms are now 300 mm above Dwl with the aft extension. Were the transoms getting buried when hard on the wind/reaching? What is the Cp on the boat now? The bi-rig is coming along, slowly but surely. You can see some updated drawings here http://www.cruisersforum.com/forums/...&postcount=147 working on the rig details at the moment.. Regards Alan |

\ what seems like a drop is not there in reality she is smooth from the deck on until she bears down it is the angle in which the picture is taken I think. No we never buried the transoms , many clients requested a bigger swimming platform and I had the idea to enlarge the rear buoyancy chamber to 800 liter each side for extra safety. On the inner side the sugar scoop is open so it will be easyer to get into a RIB. What is Cp ?, The texel rating is now 97 with the new weight of 5250 kilo empty but in the water I understand that you are building in South Africa if I can help you in any way let me know since I fly out once a month , also do yourself a favor and get all from BSI for hatches and portholes excellent company excellent products and good after sales service , Typical Danish good all around. Same for flex o fold and gori Greetings Gideon p.s I stock divinycell foam so if you need let me know Last edited by fastcat435; 23-03-2008 at 11:31. |

Hi,
The Cp is the prismatic coefficient of the hulls. Thanks for offer of the foam, I have decided to get all the foam for the hulls CNC cut at the factory, so we don't need to make a plug, and can still infuse. I expect to bring out an expert from Scandinavia to teach/instruct and oversee the infusion of the hulls. I might use BSI for the hatches, not decided yet. Props will be Flex o fold 3 bladed folding. Steering probably by Jefa. Regards Alan |

Good Idea to infuse the cnc cut foam we do this all the time to save on money and time and not to trow away the plugs.
Our new 58 and 41 will be build like that and our new Green Power cat The 3 blade folding Goris have less hydrodynamic resistance and the overdrive position is great I have used them for 5 years and am very happy with them on my st francis. jefa steering is good the bearings work great put a spare seal on the shaft above the lower bearing before fitting that will help you a lot later if the standard one cracks also make sure to have the shafts anodized to prevent corrosion we have used Jefa since the beginning and they to are a good company I deal with Armand Geisler very knowledgable Where are you building your cat ? greetings |
