Fast, Comfortable and Cheap.

They say you can only have two, but IMO this boat does a very good job of all 3.

That site is still under construction, there's also a facebook page...

An empty Wordpress site... there's a few minutes of time wasted that I'll never get back.

Re: Fast, Comfortable and Cheap.

Fantasia is busily winning races up at Hammo/Airlie Beach at the moment. Simple fast cheap boat built by the owner on an island in Moreton Bay.

Results for Airlie Race Week

AIRLIE RACE WEEK

and Hamilton Island Race Week (though its only just started)
Hammo Results

Self built takes a lot of human capital.

Nothing against the owner but nothing to suggest they beat the 2 out of 3 premise.

Re: Fast, Comfortable and Cheap.

Fact o' life: ya get three options & two choices: Fast, Cheap or Good

If it's good & fast it aint gonna be cheap.
If it's good & cheap it aint gonna be fast.
If it's fast & cheap it aint gonna be good.

There is a saying that I learned in race cars. Good, fast, cheap! Pick 2 equals the 3rd.

Re: Fast, Comfortable and Cheap.

Put it this way, it would cost a small fraction of the price of a Gunboat, and would outsail it. Well under half the price of a G-Force, which it also is faster than, as well as being much more roomy.

I'm just curious. What does that translate to in dollars if I want to go out and buy one?
I know I can't afford it, I just want to know by how much.
Thanks

Re: Fast, Comfortable and Cheap.

It's not a production boat. You'd buy plans and build it or get it built. How much would depend on a lot of factors, but if it was built like the original, ie kept simple, it shouldn't cost $500 k. Or build it yourself for under $300K.

Maybe not everyone's idea of cheap, but for a 50 foot cat that can win races against purpose built racing multi's, can be lived aboard and cruised, could safely and comfortably circumnavigate...

Re: Fast, Comfortable and Cheap.

I'm wondering if you have been on the boat. The pictures are mostly of the exterior and don't show much detail. What does show looks pretty rough in my opinion - like it was cheaply built at home. Are there berths on board? How many for a 50'er and at least one head per hull? Galley, Nav station?, anything that would actually make it a long term desireable cruiser? I don't personally understand the tiller's and then the wheel. And the hard top bimini looks very close to the cabin top as to not allow a view. What does it have for motors? $500k can buy a pretty fast purpose built catamaran.

I remember the photo's of your cat build 44c and this doesn't look like the same excellent quality.

I have been aboard, its simple and rudimentary, but the family has been living aboard for some years, so it certainly has some comfort

The finish of that particular boat isn't really relevant, AFAIK it's not for sale anyway. It's the design I was talking about.

It's proven to be an extremely fast boat, without the need for expensive exotic materials. A family has lived and cruised aboard for several years, while winning races.
