exaust for yanmar 4jh3e

hello to all yanmar owners,
I have 2 yanmar on my 2000 cat robertson&caine Leopard45 , the isue is my exaust ,the port engin has trouble with watter, the cooling liquid has to be refil every 3 to 4 days with engine running in average 2 to 4 hours max .
I have to refil each time from 300 gr to 500gr depending on how offen I switch the engine off. The stb engine is fine but from time to time he also lose water and up to now have not been able to determinate the reason .....
One thing is for shure I am not losing water because I am cheking all the tubing and no aperent leaks are visible .....
Does someone have a clue what is happening ???
Yes one more engines run perfect no oil consumption despite a quite high no. of working hours port 8500 stb 8100

My first thing to check would be the engine oil. Not milky? No coolant contamination. Good.

Next check, the heat exchanger, the most likely culprit. Hot engine coolant, under pressure may be leaking into the raw salt water passing through the heat exchanger. It would then be discharged overboard through the exhaust. Only option is to dismantle and check for corrosion, deteriorated gaskets and signs of any internal leaks. It probably needs a good clean anyway! While your at it, do the other engine as well.

As above, it's probably the heat exchanger. How many hours on each motor???

Yanmar heat exchangers are made of aluminum and are known to corrode at the end cap next to the mixing elbow.

Re: exaust for yanmar 4jh3e

I would suggest first checking the pressure "radiator" cap. Also check to see if you are gaining coolant in the expansion tank. I have found some caps that will maintain pressure but, if the upper, of the two, seal is not sealing the pressure will allow coolant to flow to the tank but not allow the cooling system to recover it when the engine cools down. Check this by blowing back towards the engine from the expansion tank end. You will hear a slight leak very easily.
Then, pressure test the cooling system, and leave it pressurized for at least one hour. There should be NO loss of pressure at 10 % over specified.
Unlikely to be the exhaust elbow.
Please let me know if you need more help, before you go buying expensive parts

My yanmar 4jh3the started loosing coolant found a small leak at a freeze plug by the turbo. Easy fix once you dismantle the turbo pipes. Bitch to get to it

Here's a tread that was discussed a while back on exchanger corrosion.

Re: exaust for yanmar 4jh3e

Good advice all round. This is not an exhaust problem. If the engine oil is clean (not milky), and you can't see a coolant leak, there's a cross-over leak/tube perforation in the heat exchanger and the coolant is flowing in to the raw water and out through the wet exhaust system.
Good luck - it's usually not a very hard job to remove and repair or more likely replace the heat exchanger, but you'll 'probably encounter some
corrosion welding and need to tap things apart.
Hang in there, this too shall pass.

The Yanmar ones are not cheap though.
There are other sources I have heard?
