Where could I look up which category the boat belongs to? Is that in the specification?
|
Yes, in the video at the end - has a specs page - down the bottom

Re: Entry Level Liveaboard/Charter Cat.
How come the Aventura 34 isn't category A?
We were just thinking this may be our perfect boat to get, but now everything changes.

Re: Entry Level Liveaboard/Charter Cat.
You'd have to ask the designers and builders. As stated, it's an entry level liveaboard or charter boat, not aimed at world cruising.

Re: Entry Level Liveaboard/Charter Cat.
I hate the cockpit layout. The only seats with backs are 4 feet from the cockpit table.
Ever live on a boat where the backs of the seats are non-existant, or all only 6-8" bolters? When you finally sit down in a proper chair, you realize you feel like you've been standing for a month.

It would be more costly to build it to withstand higher wind & waves. Looks nice. Maybe a great lake boat or stick to protected waters.

Re: Entry Level Liveaboard/Charter Cat.
What happens if I afloat (no sail) a categoryB boat in a categoryA condition? Am I gonna get flipped? Or the hull would crack/snap?

Re: Entry Level Liveaboard/Charter Cat.
Broadblue 346 measures 10.20m, merely over 10 meters, but is category A. Is there anything like it needs to be minimum 10m long to be category A?
I wonder what exactly makes Aventura 34 not category A.

The expense of testing and certification to that standard?
Category Certification is just an assurance that the boat will stand up to those conditions. Lack of certification doesn't mean that it won't.

Maybe those huge windows would blow apart when hit by a breaking wave.

Re: Entry Level Liveaboard/Charter Cat.
Someone for sure will cross an ocean in one. Look at all the yachts that have sailed around the world that would probably have not even got a B catergory. Shane Actons "Shrimpy" is a good example. 18 foot bilge keeler that circumnavigated.
Its cheap but its still at least $250,000 aussie dollars.
Cheers
