Dick Newick 50 Footer restauration in Annapolis...

I only found following photo and no other details. Photographer is Bill P. It was uploaded on 27th August 2015.

The image is titled as: "Beautifully restored Dick Newick trimaran at City Dock in Annapolis."

No further informations about this uniquely 50 Footer designed by legendary multihull specialist Dick Newick (1926-2013).

Does anybody know more about this boat ?

That one has been for sale for over a year, maybe way over. $400K is a bit high I think for a 28 year old boat. Oddly enough there was another one available at the same time in NZ or maybe OZ. I think it sold.

I totally agree.... the refitting of this boat is lots of "cosmetics". Little bit painting here and there. I calculate the total costs for the renovation at round about 50-60 Thousand, by good will at max. 80,000 US dollars.

A nearby 30 year old 50 Footer one can get for less than 100,000 without rennovation.

Lets compare rationally... and take a 40 Footer monohull of that year, e.g. a qualitatively solid boat like a HR - Hallberg-Rassy, built 1987... with a Ketch rig in the market for round about 110,000 US dollars...
1987 Hallberg-Rassy 42 Sail Boat For Sale - www.yachtworld.com

As the Ketch rig can compensate the roation wing mast by its complexity... we just need to calculate an extra amount as "plus on top" for the higher speed potentials and fun the Trimaran gives...

Then Lucky Spirit might cost maximum 160-170,000 US dollars, roughly. This would be a fair deal in my eyes, so I see it.

43 Foot Trimarans actually are in the market fully eqipped for long distance sailing at maximum 120-130,000 US dollars.

Some one even can get for less, e.g. the 43 Graincher Trimaran Dolphin Spirit you can buy for 75 KUS$... "only" 21 years old.
Racing Trimaran Single handed 43ft Grainger / Hart Marine - Price Reduced! - 1994 43 ft Single handed racing trimaran lying ... - SeaBoats

Some boat owners have lost any realistically expectation what to get.

The boat market went down since the financial crisis in 2008 heavily... boat warfts went bankrupcy... and the sales market for used boats is overflooded.

So why paying 400KUS$ ???? To get rid of "black money" some wealthy sailors have the urgency to clean ???? Maybe... :-)

That other DN50 has a vid. He's going pretty fast.

It also had a really cool feature that the one for sale doesn't have. The cockpit is curved and stretches out to the vakas. The curved traveller track fits perfectly right there. Too cool.

The name of this boat is Traveller... it was for sales in 2012. It was sailed solo by a 74 year old sailor with that powerful rig (rotation wing mast)... who wanted down-size :-)

The Website is still up... you find there many photos documenting the beautiful interieur with a modern fresh design...

Slainte1, I suppose you are misleaded. Pats is sailing in France since 2013... no rerigging. While Traveller was sailing "down under" (and built in Auckland, NZ)

As you can see in the vid and comparing with upper picture, two different boats.

This kind of Travellers we find on the Formula 40 Trimarans... as seen here on the Trimaran SPirit during its completly refit in 2014/2015...

Beautiful... and very efficient to have maximum power of the traveller sheet onto the boom nock keeping 90 Degrees steadily. Best way to trim the main/mast...

Many French Racing Trimarans have this concept... e.g. the MOD70 racers

more clearly to see here on MOD70 Spindrift

Re: Dick Newick 50 Footer restauration in Annapolis...

Yes, the price of the boat seems a bit high. But how much money would you spend on any monohull that can notch 18 knots on the video readily for any who has eyes? I would be in shock if you can post even one. Second point, is could you do ride that monohull singlehandedly? Third concept is could you also stand up in a shower, Have two separate cabins for sleep overs and sit 4 people in the dining room? That boat is just off the charts in wow factor...imho...that skipper understands his market and it is not terribly unreasonable. Just sayin
