Re: Dean cats ????

I have a dean 40 from 1999 and have been very impressed with its sailing performance. Just crossed the Southern Ocean from Cape Town to Australia and can attest to the boats solid build. Unfortunately the yard in South Africa has zero interest in providing any support to anyone who happens to purchase his boats second hand. Yes they are heavy boats but we still made 5500 miles in 40 days with many days of beating, strange enough the windward sailing was amazing. Good rig design and huge bridgedeck clearance helps alot.
the wiring was crap, the rig was bullet proof and the ergonomics were good.
I have put some video on youtube if you are interested, just search for "catamaran dean lunatic" but excuse the video quality.

Hey zero support is Lagoons trademark!
I hope Dean does not try to take that from them now.

Re: Dean cats ????

I was disapointed as I assumed that the builder would perhaps be slightly interested in one of there boats going down into the Southern Ocean. Well I was wrong!

I think once the cheque clears from the first buyer they just put thier hands over thier ears and eyes and pretend you dont exist.
Not a great way or repeat business.
I would buy gain but make sure i screw them down as they dont want to know you later.

We spoke at length to Peter Dean as well as several Dean cat owners. Peter's and owners' stories coincide: very good support network, but on the stuff that Dean installed themselves. Should you install something yourself (or PO), they won't support it. Sounds fair to me.

Not sure what you mean by your post...

Re: Dean cats ????

I think there is only a small percentage of repeat business.

Like pool builders hereabouts.

And they know that.
