Damaged 2012 Lagoon 450, Only $150K

Late model catamaran - very slowly taking on of water - appeared to be coming right through the FRP - drilled with 2" hole saw - found only chopped strand and only 3mm thick in one spot.

That submaran would appear to be one hell of an ambitious undertaking. Too bad it was submerged to the depth it was, or could have made an interesting parts doner. But it appears that much of the interesting organs are now cancer riddled. Captains career : R.I.P.

The dinghy looks fine.

I wouldn't touch this thing with a barge pole.

I hope no one except a experienced boat builder buys it. It's just a nest of very expensive tears.

Seemed clear to me, he was commenting on the quality of modern cats. I have no opinion on whether he's correct, but it fits in the thread well enough.

Nothing to do with the structure of this cat led to its demise. As i stated prior i've salvaged and repaired boats with identical damage in steel, ally and glass. THE common denominator is coral/rock's and surge.

FRP and rocks mixed with waves were the boats downfall, most production boats whether they be cats or dogs are constructed the same, in this case BENETEAU....

I never said any different. I simply pointed out that it was relevant, as others have brought up the construction of Modern catamarans. I expressed no personal opinion on the subject.

Wow you believe my question was hostile? If so you have my apologies.

My response was based on clarifying why someone would think any FRP boat would survive such an event, it was the event itself that screwed this boat not hypothetical deficiencies in 'Modern Cat's' structure.

Would a picture of a CQR anchor bent and twisted be of value to this thread with the comment 'Cqr's fail in coral'???

I mentioned Beneteau as an instance to simply point out that 'Modern' Cat manufacturers build mono's as well.

Once again i thought there was no attack or nastiness in my response...

Not to change the subject, but I plan to purchase a Lagoon 420 in the next few weeks. I live in Maryland and the boat is in the Caribbean. I plan to move onto it next year. Where is the best place to flag it? I want to pay as little as possible in sales tax.

Asking 150k is too much. I would guess its true value to be what you could get for its parts. If purchased and repaired, I don't think anyone in their right mind would purchase it, especially if the repair work was done by an amateur. Remember that the tension from the rig goes through the deck and hull.

VWVortex.com - Brand new Lagoon 450 grounded on a reef and bottom torn out.

That is pretty sad. Before I saw the pictures, I wouldn't have believed that it was that bad.

But, I wouldn't pay $150 for it.

There should be an on-line TV show about what not to do in boats.
