Current Status of My Gemini Cat

Well as you all know I was blown ashore on my Gemini and got Holed,

The Insurance company have stopped paying for the hard stand at the Marina and I am now the owner again of the TERE HAU NUI, 2003 Gemini 105MC Catamaran,

As of today the 16th March, The insurance company have been most helpfull through out this emotional and stressfull time for me,

I am currently getting the boat dismasted and will truck my boat to Melbourne where a welcoming hard stand is waiting for her,

I got paid out in full, Agreed value on my boat, Then I bought the wreck back,

Only it is not a wreck, it just has big holes in each hull, Totally and easily fixable,

My vessel will be better than it ever was, With strengthened and stiffened Hulls for sitting on beaches,

At least now I know my Gemini is a true Blue Water vessel with out any doubt,

Being parked wrecked it, Not sailing it,

3 or 4 months and my Gem will be sea worthy again,

Total change of wind direction,
Dead calm, to on the rocky beach in less than 10 minutes, and dragging anchors.

Too bad you're in Oz,

there's a guy here in Miz'sippi with a Katrina-salvage Gemini and I think he's wanting to sell it.

Re: Current Status of my Gemini Cat.

Great news. Good luck! After seeing how some boatyards modify boats, fixing a salvage boats doesnt scare me a bit. (a yard I was in cut a 56' powerboat with a chainsaw/skil saw removing the aft cockpit/20% of the boat. Then added 6 ft and a hot tub.! was beautiful when done.)

Re: Current Status of my Gemini Cat.

I often hear of people buying back their wrecks, particularly aircraft, thus ending up with the same machine at a fraction of the initial cost. How does one find out about such deals, for example obviously you knew about yours, however do theynget advertised somewhere here?

When does she arrive, I'd be interested to see what she looks like Mr B?

Re: Current Status of my Gemini Cat.

Other than big holes in the hull, easily repaired,
There is nothing else wrong structurally with my Gem,
Its still standing ready for sea,
A few electrics that got drowned, being down low, under 4 feet, above that, Totally undamaged,

The timber was wet less than a couple of hours, so should be allright,
Maybe a bit of fresh stain,

every thing else is fibreglass, so no damage,

I will go over it when I get it back here and then I will know precisely what needs doing,

My baby will live again, No problems, bigger and better than before,

Its not the way I planned or wanted it, But this way I will end up with a very cheap Boat,

Some thing good always comes from some thing bad,

Cheers,
Brian,

You have a good attitude, Brian. I hope it all works out well for you and you get years of enjoyment out of your boat.

Re: Current Status of my Gemini Cat.

Mr. B,

Would you mind explaining in more detail how the anchor-drag to the rocks happened? Do you think an anchor alarm GPS would have helped? Were you on the boat? I don't know if you have posted this in another thread, but I'd like to know more.
