Crikeys! MUST you guys turn everything into a mono vs multi rage???

My simple point was to show t he one reason that I (that is me personally) would consider a bowsprit on a yacht for my own usage... was to allow one to stand off of a mooring float and not have it bang against the hull.

Yes, the thread was in the multihulll forum... so what? Hardly the first time that thread drift has happened on CF.

And for tom: On a yacht where the mast did not meet your "Especially the part about the purpose of a bowsprit allowing the mast to be stepped farther forward." definition, exactly what would you call the spar that projects forward from the bow, has the forestay secured to t he outer end, and may have a bobstay to resolve the forestay tensions? sounds like a bowsprit to me...
