Hardly ever happens. A fellow cruiser we met in the Exumas
on a performance minded light cat was showing me his trip averages her the last 15OO miles. Top speed was 18 knots and I was drooling, his trip average was 6, I didn't feel so bad.
May As well plan to be comfy , fast doesn't always happen just my 2 c
Also I have seen a couple cruising cats at and below their design payload with transoms much lower than I would think they should be. I have my doubts as to what planned water
line really is.
