From time to time I see posts wherein somebody asks about taking sailing classes
, so I thought I'd post this report for anybody interested in furthering their multihull
sailing skills, especially on a trimaran
Don Wigston from Windcraft.net in Mary Esther, Fla, offers a sailing clinic twice a year on Farrier/Corsair trimarans, utilizing his own skills and those of other locals including two-time Olympic silver medalist, Randy Smyth. Set over a weekend, the clinic includes lecture, q&a, sailing and a few socializing meals
that included Randy providing some humorous entertainment based on his adventures with Hollywood (Thomas Crowne Affair and Waterworld).
Each day was centered around skills and drills, but although my s.o. is just learning
to sail and I am by no means a skillful sailor and have never raced, she learned a great deal about sailing and I learned a lot more about a variety of topics, especially sail trim - one of my weaknesses.
We had a great time, albeit at a fairly rapid pace (!), and gained a lot in a short time. I can honestly say it was one of the most useful classes
I've taken. Contact Don (who'll be at the Corsair
display Fri/Sat) for more information. I'm attaching a photo
taken of the F-28 we were on.
