I'm reviving this thread because i am also interested in a Corsair 36!
Does anyone have one?
How about trailering? I understand this isn't your, "tow it to the lake every weekend" kind of boat, but can one tall, strong, young man deal with lowering and raising the mast without the aid of a crane?? I would only tow it to the winter cruising grounds in the fall and somewhere else in the spring??
Does anyone have any first hand info about Ian Farrier's claims that these boats weren't built right? Did Corsair resolve the issues?

There is a 'magic video' by Corsair where the boat is launched and sailing in 20 mins. I had a F31 and it took me 1-2 hours. If the stick is Carbon Fibre it is easy but the aluminium rotating mast takes 3 blokes to move it.

The 31 pushed my full sized SUV around...the 36?

Search for a website on "Nomadness Corsair" - a corsair 36 - that guy has a heap of interesting stuff.

I did half a Brisbane to Gladstone Race on a Corsair 36, we had a rudder issue and had to pull out. If you are genuine and interestted I may be able to put you in contact with a Brisbane C36 owner who races his boat a lot.

There seems to be some concern about the weight and design of the C-36. Some failures have been reported, check the F-boat site at Yahoo Groups. Don't confuse the C-36 and F-36. Dave

I'm not really worried about how the boat feels behind my truck. I have a big and heavy 1 ton Dodge pickup that I've pulled over 20,000 lbs. with, so I'm sure that pulling an under 10,000 lb. boat would feel OK.
I'm mostly wondering if lowering the mast and folding a C36 for trailering is doable by one man? A Corsair 31 is 5' shorter and the Mast is also 5' shorter and MANY people trailer these boats all over the place. If the 42'6" mast of the C31 can be easily lowered, can't the 47'6" mast be also easily lowered? I realize also that the C36 has a folded beam of 9'10" while the C31 is 8'2". Thats only 10" wider on either side of the boat (doesn't seem like THAT big of a difference). That extra size makes this boat much more appealing to me, my wife and our two kids (and Dog).
As for the differences between a C36 and an F36, I realize there are major differences.
And I also realize that there have been some problems reported about the C36.
This is the info I'm trying to dig up! I'm looking for first hand info (hopefully from a C36 owner) about these reported deficiencies. Are they real? What are the problems? Is there an easy enough fix? Every boat has its quirks and problems, I'm just trying to figure out if this boat is easily (and cost effectively) remedied, so as to make it a safe and solid cruiser.
There are a few used C36 listed for sale for $225,000 (US dollars) and up to over $300,000. Can they really be that deficient in there construction?

I think weight concerns are related to sailing not towing. These boats have max safe gross weight and if the build weight is too high there is not enough capacity for gear and provisions. Most seem to think the rig is too heavy and that the boat is not practical to trailer sail. This is from a quick search on the F boat site, a more detailed search might add more. Dave

Width on towing is a problem. In many places 8.5 feet is the limit of what can be towed without permits.

I bet most folks (including Johnny law) would have a hard time eyeing a 9'10" boat as being too big and pull you over for it.

When we were getting ready truck our Lord Nelson35 (beam 11'10") from Mexico to the PNW, Marina Seca was worried about the Federales and the beam. Even though 12 feet was OK, the Federales have their own "ways of interpretation of the law".

The stories on the C36 vary. Ian Farrier does not think it is a well designed or built boat, and I got to give him credit, knows his stuff. You can tell the difference in a Corsair built during his tenure, and one built when he was not around.

I am looking at moving up the an F32x. I personally think it is a better boat, and looking at the specs, space, don't think I am going to miss the 4 feet.
