Cockpit galley

I know some boats have a fridge, or ice box in the cockpit. lots have a rail barbeque. Does anyone have an actual oven or range top in the cockpit?
Cooking is a big hobby for me and I don't see that changing when we move aboard. I do worry a little about the amount of heat and humidity produced from cooking for hours at a time though.
We do plan on anchoring out, so I guess air flow isn't usually a problem, but it seems better to be able to cook out on the "back deck" like I do on warm days at home.
And I posted this in the multiple section because...
1 I don't see this being very feasible on a mono
2 After our last charter on a lagoon, my wife fully committed to retiring aboard, as long as it's on a cat;-)

Re: Cockpit galley

Well, I think the problem would be providing access to all of the cookery gadgets in the cockpit. Plenty of designs have a galley in the pilothouse.
As far as an oven, I saw this solar oven rail-mounted in one of the youtube boats. I'm intrigued.

There's always the option of a camping stove.

Re: Cockpit galley

Both good ideas, solar ovens look interesting but seem more a toy than serious. Maybe worth looking into more.
A portable camp stove is the back up idea right now, but I would like to find something a little more permanent.

Cockpit galley

How about a Weber Q, best of both worlds BBQ & oven in one. I have cooked cakes in mine using the trivet with a layer of foil under it.

Blaze a trail here (no pun intended), build it, photograph it, share it here and then enjoy the use of your Summer Kitchen. Always have one of those at the house and we agree, nothing better!

I might just have to. I imagine it does exist on some boat, just maybe only on ones out of my budget.

Re: Cockpit galley

Take a look at much cheaper boats. Many daycruisers (motor boats) have only cockpit galley.

Re: Cockpit galley

In the tropics, being able to cook outside is very popular... Here in the Philippines they call an outside cooking station a 'dirty kitchen' and is a popular feature in most houses.

On my Stargazer, I have something similar with two prep tables built over the dive tanks.

We cook either with the BBQ or a single burner gas stove for a big pot of crabs or an electric Turbo Roast for baking and oven work.
