Wear Life Jackets At All Times.

More importantly, can someone identify this recently flipped Cat.

All crew rescued.

Re: Coast Guard advice for all Cat Sailors

Really, the CG specifically excluded all monohulls with the directive to always wear life jackets? That seems very unlikely to me.

Regarding always wearing life jackets, surely that depends on the conditions, the boat, and the level of risk of going into the water. On anything other than beach cats why would you think there’s a higher risk of going into the water for a catamaran relative to any other type of boat?

I certainly think that wearing an automatically inflating life jacket is not a good idea if down below, because you’re going to have a hell of a time getting out from under a bridge deck or through an escape hatch with an inflated life jacket.

How very misleading this post is. At the end of the video, they say, "for all Mariners a reminder to wear your life jacket at all times because you never know when something like this will happen. "

Yet, the OP makes it look like it’s advice for catamarans only.

More fake news from the usual suspect.

Guy probably owns a monohull production facility that's teetering on bankruptcy or something. Lol

We Live aboard in the Caribbean. We never leave anchor without a pfd. We wear functional old ones in the dinghy. They are never stolen.

Please provide reference to USCG memorandum advising Multihulll sailors in the terms you describe. Alternatively get a bucket of water to put over your pants. I suspect they are on fire.

Re: Coast Guard advice for all Cat Sailors

For those who read the story on the link it seems like the folks on the cat (which I can't ID but it does not look like a Seawind; rudders are different and Seawinds have outboards in wells) were not well prepared.

The weather forecast was for 6-40 knot winds. While I always wonder about any weather prediction that seems on the outer limits of a reliable forecast. I always look for a good weather window; and that does not seem like one. After the cat flipped the folks on the boat (who had no PFDs) used a cell phone which could only text to message a friend who called the USCG. No idea why a cell phone could only text; not to mention why no VHF.

Re: Coast Guard advice for all Cat Sailors

Boat kinda looks too small to be 36PDQ and the keels are longer and more near middle.
Been wrong more than right but looks like a 30 ft something?

I agree, it does look like a PDQ . But did the PDQ have the stern flats with the hard turn of the bilge aft, and the skeg hung rudders ??

If I remember correctly it has flat sterns but I believe the outboard model has spade rudders. Maybe the LRC has skeg hung rudders?
