Really, the CG specifically excluded all monohulls with the directive to always wear life jackets? That seems very unlikely to me.
Regarding always wearing life jackets, surely that depends on the conditions, the
boat, and the level of risk of going into the
water. On anything other than beach cats why would you think there’s a higher risk of going into the
water for a
catamaran relative to any other type of
boat?
I certainly think that wearing an automatically inflating life jacket is not a good idea if down below, because you’re going to have a hell of a time getting out from under a bridge
deck or through an escape
hatch with an inflated life jacket.
