24ft Hirondelle catamaran sailboat. .project
Hirondelle in FL
And as for making a tri out of 3 boats...well... in SMALLER sizes its really not THAT unreasonable. Plenty of tri's under 23 feet built with beach cats (hobie 16/18/etc) as amas. Although you are better off building your own main
hull. Newick Tremolino comes to mind, as the most common. With the right
centerboard or daggerboard
boat as a main
hull, and catamaran hulls as the "outriggers" it won't really be all that bad to sail. Most but not all
monohull hull shapes are not good for tri's, too beamy, etc etc. But the point is valid that you're better off going with a known
multihull design, both in resale value and for practical reasons. It sounds like you're looking for a shortcut and there are plenty of used boats that will get you on the
water faster. You will spend as much
money and time as building a full trimaran...and probably end up with something sub par, unfinished, that no one else will even be willing to haul away for free..
