Re: Cheap Multis and Projects

a quick google search provided this:
Quote:
In 1981 the very first Gemini Catamaran was launched
and at the time no one knew it would start a legacy.

I think a boat that can time-travel back to a time before its birth is a special kind of boat.

I bet that black tape on the port bow has a good story...

Ditto for the black plastic wrapped around the forward beam and the deflated dinghy likely hiding an equal defect on the starboard bow. These are just two concerns of structural integrity, but there are likely more.

I sold this cat to the idiots who ruined her. There isn't much structural damage . Its well worth fixing-has great hulls and sails.

They routinely hit piles docking

Re: Cheap Multis and Projects

Some great cheap multis on here recently, thanks for doing the digging!

The ad on the woods does say that they have removed a portion of the top deck for an 'easy' repair. It looks like there is some standing water inside some of the hulls though, possibly in the wood. Don't know enough about the construction to know if that's the case though.

That boat is a late 1980s maybe early 90s. You can tell by the double spreader rig. I own a 1988 Gemini 3000 and it has a single spreader rig about 2ft further aft and a 2ft shorter stick. That boat would be a 3200 model which came after mine. The Gemini is actually a much older design though as it started in production in the UK maybe as early as the 1960s, certainly they were in production in the mid 70s as the Aristocat 30.

I looked over that boat at the marina when the builder was assembling it prior to it first launching, it was very much an amature build, quite rough. The ad is written in a way that would suggest it was built by a professional yard, it was not. That said the hulls were strip planked composite and may well be sound. With this construction method there are structural glass skins inside and out with I believe epoxy resin so she would have some chance of surviving sitting with water in the hulls. I saw it for sale a few years ago and it looked like someone had done a lot of work to make it look better so it may be worth buying if it remains cheap enough.
