What does everyone think about this Norman Cross?

The mast looks way too small.

That Cross doesn't look right. I think most were designed as ketches. I wonder if some one just ditched the mizzen and/or they redesigned her as a sloop. It looks like the sail area is too small for this big tri. Here's one for comparison. It looks like it's about the same height main mast.

But the jib is what really drives the boat....and lifts the bows. Mains don't do all that much relative to sail area because of the mast. Now if it is a rotating foil or an A-Frame then things could be different.

But I agree it does not look "normal".

We owned the smaller sister, the Cherokee 35 for 9 years. Great boats. Not incredibly fast but not bad for an older boat. Only thing I would wonder about would be the condition of the balsa cored decks and bridge decks. That boat is definitely tempting.

Seen Iroquois's (also manufactured by Sailcraft) pop up on this thread a few times. Has anyone been to see this one with asking price of $17,000? Least expensive cat I've seen so far.

These older cats had a narrow beam which means a more tender boat and capsize is more of a worry. The daggerboards add to this but should sail pretty well. All of the modern cats are over 50% beam and some are much wider. Except Gemini which is an old design anyway.
Oddly enough some of the large cats go back to narrower and I can't understand the logic there.

The wider the boat the more chance you have of pitch poling as it seems to affect your fore and aft stability. Old school rule was your beam should be half your WL as it seems this Apache is.
Pretty sure all the Apaches but one had centerboards. The one that didn't has a single daggerboard.
