Re: Cheap Multis and Projects

Just for grins see pics. I found these old rotting Wharram hulls piled against the side of a house in a fishing village in Malaysia where we lived back in early 90s. Hauled them to a school woodshop where I was teaching and after a number of months of rebuild, took them to beach for assembly and launch of the Tiki 21. Had some fun with that boat in and around Penang...

Yeah, I was hired to do a boat inspection on that boat last month. It's truly a 'fixer upper'. Look at it here..

Awesome little boat for Adventure sailing.. mine had a solid floor and just big enough to fit a Dome tent on the centre deck for those longer times on the hook..

Well not exactly. I completed the transaction for this boat yesterday but I was in Thailand when I first contacted Marstrom and paid a deposit.

My thanks goes to andreas.mehlin for posting about this boat here and bringing it to my attention.

My task now is to get the boat to the UK (Essex) to work on it. Any offers from delivery skippers and especially skippers with a craft capable of towing her most welcome. I will be working on getting the engines and steering working and also fixing up the navigation lights etc.

My friends kids knew those kids and they were over at my place years back for a barbeque. A few times actually. It's all here.

It also needs a boat.

This is a collection of boat parts, it is not a boat!

For reference, they call a Wharram here in Hawaii a "Double Canoe", even if it has a sail on it.

Re: Cheap Multis and Projects

Someone here in Panama recently picked up an impounded Perry 43 catamaran for $50K! Needs some work of course, but he could actually make a profit on this boat (a very rare event). Used ones list for $350K to $500K. Better than low cost...substantial negative costs!

Re: Cheap Multis and Projects

I think I know that boat! It was bought by two younger guys and was pretty stripped inside. They showed up one day with a truckload of TV's, stereos, and other electronics and loaded them into the boat. They were in the next slip when we were in Shelter Bay and they were using it as a brothal and weekend party boat. Every Friday afternoon 5-6 hookers would show up on it and then throngs of guys would come and go all weekend. Loud as hell. They were always in trouble with marina management. Do you know what they got impounded for?

That was a good boat for $50K, although the engines were in bad shape (probably requiring replacement) and it needed the interior rebuilt.

You'd have to hire someone in a hazmat suit to go in and wipe down the walls. That's a $100/hr job!

Not sure if its the same boat, but it was in Turtle Cay for at least the past year and I assume longer. Ive been told the engines are in bad shape as are the sails, but even if you spent $100K fixing it up, you would still be way ahead. But it did manage to get to Shelter Bay on its own bottom.

Don't know why it was impounded.
