I believe those pictures were taken on Gilligan's Island through Thurston Howell's cataract viewing lens.

Re: Cheap Multis and Projects

this thread is torture... so many temptations...

BTW - I called the guy with the free cat, and he's looking for someone to scrap it. Hatches still look good, and there's some aluminum left...

Dunno if this counts as as a steel? I'm willing to entertain offers.

Nope, to really be a steal would have to be 50 or less. We passed on on in Fl for 59 and it was solid but needed the typical Prout 20+ yr old boat work. Orig engine only had 300 hrs as the owner refused to motor unless absolutely needed. Nice boat but far from a steal unless geography dictates the extra cost. My own 2 cents😝

Re: Cheap Multis and Projects

That one in FL was quite unique (the price). Saw it on Sold Boats site for a final price of around 56k. All the rest on that site have been much closer to 100k in the US and Europe and Aussie is even more. Asking prices of around 120k+ here.

Not all boats are the same either. Owners can do a lot in 20 years... or not much at all in keeping her a solid vessel.

As I said. Offers welcome. This is a turn-key boat. That hardly exists. I know. I shopped for years before finding her.

Re: Cheap Multis and Projects

Uhuh and there's a prout escale 39 for sale it was at 134k while all the others in the world were 165k plus. Guess what they are all still for sale and the one for 134 is now 109 and she will take 60-75k. That one might qualify for this posting but not sure id still, consider it a deal.
You have a nice boat but its not a cheap project like most of the ones this posting was intended for.

There is a 48' Tri in San Diego for $9999. No pics but I think it has been posted here before with pics. I remember it being a major project.

I wonder what is wrong with the Prout. Looks like a big boat with lots of stuff.

Re: Cheap Multis and Projects

It probably just needs everything updated like any other 1982 boat. They are not great boats and I doubt many have sold of this model for over 100k in recent years. They seems to have it priced aggressively, but no giveaway for that size project.

Re: Cheap Multis and Projects

The Quasars got wider over the years. That one has a fairly narrow beam at about 19' and the 1990 Quasar Espace is at 23' 6". I wonder if the hulls are the same?
I think they are somewhat heavy and have a conservative sail plan so the older ones shouldn't be too tender. And FWIW most modern cats have a beam in excess of 50% of the length. The Catana 50 is 26' 5".
