Re: Cheap Multis and Projects

Looks a good buy, but 44 foot glass over mahogany with glass over ply decks that weighs only 4.5 tonnes? Yet draws 3 feet?

I was sus on the weight VS draft too, however the hulls look very narrow. Still no way it weighs 4.5t. I suspect that was Locks original dry weight in race trim built to min scantlings. How much does your 44c weigh dry? Also did you notice how unfair it was below the waterline? Still a beautiful boat, but I am not sure on the accommodations. Appears as if they a ALL in the bridge deck. May as well buy this

I LOVE this crowther design.
Is the only thing wrong with it the broken carbon fiber mast?
If one were to find a smaller less race oriented mast and sails, could this boat make a decent world cruiser?
I personally LOVE the podcat style arrangement.
Anyone with more pics/info?

I had a look at 'Blondie' a couple of weeks ago, she's been on sale for over a year IIRC. Says bring offers.
Looks pretty good for an old girl and I think the Spindrifts were pretty fast.
I didn't go onboard, just looked from about 15m away.
Cheers,
Mac

Doesn't that look like a modified or updated 'Top gun' design?
Cheers,

1/ Almost? Dr. Gav races his Top Gun that way doesn't he?
2/Neither can I. bows, keels, rocker, But I don't know all of his designs.
3/ They sure were/are, if I was younger and single it'd be worth a closer look.
Cheers,
Mac

Gavins boat is a Crowther 50 and the one above is a Southern Ocean 58, formerly known as Rongtudjuu. The other reasonably famous southern ocean 58 was Raw Nerve. The southern Oceans were of course Crowther design (brett) like top gun, and similar boats, but a different design. Dr Gav (Gavin le Seuer) has written a story about the exe top gun - you can find it here: TOPGUN

Factor,
You're right of course and that design IIRC had a few teething or cost problems didn't it? [Raw Nerve]. I was just musing how similar the designs were, thanks for the details.
I've never met Gavin le Seuer but have read just about everything by him that I could find, even use his eDoc site for free medical hints!
His account of bringing 'Topgun' back home is a great example of why I read his articles etc. I'll check your link now, thanks again.
Cheers,
Mac

I just put that boat here in the "Worst for Sale Pics" thread.

So what does a new carbon rotating mast cost? $100K?

Re: Cheap Multis and Projects

This 56' cat was posted before but the price has been dropped to $15,000!
Is there anybody in the bay area that can take a look. That pic looks like it's 30 years old. Scroll down to see it.

This was just listed for $99,500. It looks like it has twin tabernacle masts.

Re: Cheap Multis and Projects

This 40' cat was originally built as a sailboat and then converted to power. You could convert it back, or not. Only $35,000.
