Those weirdo sterns look like an addition. That cat looks familiar otherwise.

Re: Cheap Multis and Projects

I think that is a "custom" cat only because the company that launched it with great fanfare didn't get any buyers for their line. That looks like a cat that was built in China several years ago, but the boat came out grossly overweight with lots of problems. I can't remember the name of the company, but there was a lot of pimping of it in Multihull Magazine, and a lot of embarrassment after it launched.

Looks like it would be really unbalanced and heavy forward. Too bad the sterns kind of kill it, rest of it looks nice

As a "custom" catamaran builder I'm loath to critize the general concept of any particular design, but WOW!

Re: Cheap Multis and Projects

Here's another oddity. It was posted here before but now the price is about half. How low will it go?
Notice the electric motors. The mast is one of those tripod deals like you see holding up a major radio antennae. On land!
It is a project and it is cheap, sort of.

Re: Cheap Multis and Projects

This one just came down to $90K which for a 55' is kinda cheap. It's also a Newick design (RIP) and I don't think he ever designed a slow boat.

This one is "interesting" from the last 2 that I posted in that I believe it is an actual fully functional sailboat. You may have to register to see the specs and pics. PIA I know.

Re: Cheap Multis and Projects

Nice pic from marina Hemingway. I think Newick is still very much alive and living in the Bay Area. You know you're a successful tri designer if you didn't die at sea sailing one of your designs!

Post Re: Cheap Multis and Projects

Here's a nice looking 42' Harris Sundowner Tri in Australia, and it looks to me to be value for money...Me thinks this Tri is worth a trip up North (2000+KM one way) to look over this Tri but I know nothing about foam sandwich built boats, so what problems would one look for when looking over a foam sandwich boat

Re: Cheap Multis and Projects

Well I was only off by a few days, had not heard the news. He was plenty old I believe. I recall Derek Kelsall saying he visited with him last year around this time in CA.

did you notice that thing is like 32' wide? Looks like a nice boat and certainly a bargain in terms of square footage, but would be a major issue to handle for any coastal sailing. Let alone docking and haul outs.
