Catamarans

So I am looking at a 33' Dean Catamaran and would be curious as to the price range for that boat and what the members here think of one. I am going to use in the Caribbean. No plans to head across big water and it would be 2-4 people max.

Re: Catamarans

I only have personal knowledge of two folks who owned a Dean (on the other hand that may be because they are the only survivors). Their boats were cheaply made, showed their flaws, and had little value after a few years. On the other hand, there are lots of boats in the Virgins that fit that exact description. People sail them, live on them, and hopefully haven't sunk on them.

If you want a Dean it shouldn't be hard to get one at a low price. Many people think they need an ocean capable boat to cruise the islands and drink a lot of beer. Isn't true. Most boats will allow that activity. So don't be too hard on the Dean. If its floating, it might be worth considering.

As with all posts on this forum, just and opinion, no need for hate mail in reply.

Re: Catamarans

Dunno about that, I've delivered two of the 44's, the older one was better built than the brand new one. At the end of the day, all the Deans you see in the Caribbean sailed here on their own bottoms and they often used to win the Cape Town to Rio race. So imho they are pretty seaworthy and quite fast!
