Catamaran Values

We are about to purchase a bluewater cat. We were told the boat was launched in '97 but have now discovered via a blog, that it was actually 2 years earlier. She is in excellent nick but are worried about resale down the track for a cat that will be 20 years old by the time we sell. Also what does it say about the seller?
How much difference does 2 years make to the value?

After a boat reaches a certain age, it's the condition of the yacht and the amount of gear on board that will determine its value. A couple of years one way or another won't matter much. The yacht will have been fully depreciated long ago.

Thanks Maxingout, I guess we will pay particular attention to the survey when it is done.

You've been lied to before you even buy it...how many times do you have to be hit before you flinch?

i'd walk away...there's LOTS of stuff out there for sale.

Tis a bad sign that there has already been this much 'mis'-communication. To paraphrase and 'adjust' an old saying..." (mis)trust but verify".

Heck, this is telling the guy to avoid boat brokers! You're buying the boat, not the broker.

As has been mentioned, this boat has already depreciated. Don't worry about the age, be concerned about the condition of the boat. If the boat's been kept up to date and is in great shape. And the owner doesn't think his hulls are made of gold ... Buy her.
