how is the best way and wher to insert the emergency tiller on the FOUNTAINE PAJOT 44 2009

I have a 2011 Orana (44FP) - if its similar, the emergency tiller inserts into the top of one of the rudder shaft tops. These shafts are hollow at the top with an inset pin that mates with the piece of the emergency tiller that is slotted. My emergency tiller is located in the anchor locker, near the windlass. It's awkward and requires you to have an engine compartment open.
The set up is not great, but it will get you home.
