I loved the St 50, especially on the outside. I hated the gen access.

I also loved most of the Lagoon 450, i was especially surprised how well it sailed in light air. We did about 5.5 knots in 8.5 of true wind sailing upwind.
I hated how high the boom was, however.

The Gunboat was awesome, but the layout sucked, it was chosen for that specific owner.

They are coming out with a new 50 footer that will have retractable electric drives that are powered by diesel generators, designed by David Tether.

My wife like the St Francis and the Discovery. The Leopard is OK but the pimple is terrible especially if entertaining or eating while under way in the cockpit because the captain(usually me) is cut off from see anyone.

I didn't get on the gunboat due to the long wait.

We may be going to the Miami show to see the new Voyage 520, they are making nice changes to the current model.

Have sailed the Atlantic 55 and 42. The 57 is a BIG boat. For me, the 48 appears to be the right size.

I've posted the pics I took at the show. It will be a while before I can add captions and group them by boat, but the first boat is an FP. Someplace along the way I wised up and took a picture of the boat name before taking a series of pictures of the boat.

Yes, quite a bit. In general I have to say I was disappointed by the fit and finish of the FP. I wasn't expecting fine craftsmanship but I also wasn't expecting large and uneven gaps around the cabin doors. I didn't find out if this was a manufacture issue or if this particular boat was just "rode hard and put up wet". If it didn't leave the factory that way then it appears there must have been considerable flexing to put it into that condition.

Which FP was it? Problem is if the manufacturers ship their boats over you have no idea on how they will look after a decent voyage which often shows up all interesting things!

FP fit and finish compared to Lagoon and Leopard have been an issue for the last few years, IMO.

The new Gemini Designer's ouch is a refreshing upgrade of a couple's coastal cruiser to a mid-1980's design. An OK deal for two people cruising. I own one and have learned to expect very Conservative design. A boat to look at if you are on a budget and coastal cruise.

The woodwork does look a bit off. Remember that some gaps are intentional. This keep the boat from creaking and moaning as the hull flexes underway.

haha, I'm not saying "overlook shoddy workmanship"...I'm saying it makes very little sense for some woodwork and fixtures to be in contact on every side with the hull. The hull vibrates and flexes. Your fixtures are meant to be rigid so if they are affixed at all points they are going to rub and caused unneeded localized stress. All the pretty woodwork is not structural and there are benefits to having it be mechanically isolated.

And I don't disagree with your generalized statement, but think it is a stretch to apply it to the fit & finish of the FPs I have seen at the boatshow the last several years.
