Amazing how cool and rational he appears to remain throughout this ordeal.
Also well impressed with his assistant / companion , she is a great asset on board .

Yer, that was a crack up.

The tides around the time (3 months ago now) were running out until around dusk. (6meter range). So pushing the tide heading south from western side of Bigge. The distances given in the video simply don't add up.

The footage of their surroundings dosn't give away too many clues either.

Seeking shelter from the prevalent NW sea breeze could have had them sail the 5 miles up to a good anchorage in Scott Strait inlet. Continuing the 10 miles on to Rainforrest Ravine would , and proved to be real dicey, to find anchorage around low water springs , in the dark without local knowledge is well........

Either way the seabreeze dies quickly in this part of the world at that time of year, so dropping the pick and wearing the poor passage planning is the only thing to do.

Steaming around in the dark is suicide.

Re: Catamaran hits uncharted reef NW Australia

big tides / dry her out on a sheltered sand beach / watch out for crocodiles / water should drain out the holes in the hull / any paint you have on board including acrylic will stick sail cloth over the fibreglass trauma / the area must be dry / coat over with several coats if you have enough paint / it's good to see that hull design works and you are still floating / we were very wary in that area in 2006 and bypassed a lot of it due to pearl farms in the best anchorages and the water in close the same colour as the rocks and reef (bad weather) / good luck and best wishes with your cruising

I subbed a long time ago. Peter is a decent guy. And if you like free-diving and spear-fishing...he is good, real good.

Agreed, I became a patreon. He will have another video out tomorrow or the day after which I will share here. He looks rough in his latest message. Poor fellow.

Ok, just to clarify....
Are these videos reports of what happened a while ago and the boat is now abandoned??

Or is the salvage still ongoing??

Either way very interesting to watch

Are you sure about the timeline? I thought it was more recent, like weeks. The previous videos with the Scandinavian crew were from the summer. I think the grounding and rescue were from mid October.

I was actually asked if I wanted to do a salvage trip using my boat by a mutual friend.

I am sure.

Summer in Australia is about to start (Dec - Feb).

As others have pointed out, the timeline is clarified in the other thread.

So you now have a boat that is capable of towing a large, semi-submerged catamaran several hundreds miles around the NW coast of Autralia?

Now that, I'd love to see.
