Catamaran Haul - FL West Coast

I'm trying to find a boat yard that is within 2 hours of Sarasota that can haul a 25' beam. I've checked the google search and tried all the previous suggestions but no go so far. Any suggestions?
Thanks, David.

Ahh, I see you problem and have lived it.

There may be one in the area but I could not find it and had to go to Ft. Myers at Bob and Annies boatyard on Pine Island.

If you find one in the area, I would be very interested.

I just went through this with a 21ft beam. I did not find a single yard in the Tampa / St Petersburg / Bradenton area that could haul anything more than 21ft. Even the ones that can were at max width - literally 3 inches to spare.

25ft beam haulout - don't think it exists in the Tampa area.

I think Shawn is right, Bob & Annie's on Pine Island is about the only one.

Would there be any yards where one can crane the boat out and place it on a trailer to be maneuvered to a position where the work is carried out?

Let us know what you find. I too have a vested interest in finding a solution to this problem.

Sorry I can't be of any help.

Thanks for the Bob and Annie suggestion. I checked their location and it looks like about an 1.5 hours from my parents place which is in University Park, right off I75. They also look like their capable of doing a lot of the modifications I want so - Great. Thanks again. David.

Follow-up on Bob and Annie's. They don't have any storage on the hard. Back to the perverbial drawing board.

Tampa Bay is full of Manta 42s. Are they really that hard to haul? My info is that Viking Boatworks can handle 24 feet and NOA Marine can take a 22-foot beam.

As for 25 feet, I think Gulf Marine Ways in Ft Myers can do that, but it might be a game of inches there.

For wider cats (mine is 26 feet), Snead Island is repairing their marine rail that has been down for 15 years and should be ready to start hauling by now. Who wants to go first?

Check with Snead Island Boat Works in Palmetto (941-722-2400). They have both a trael lift and a rail lift although I'm uncertain as to whether the latter is still functional. In anycase, if they can't help odds are Gary Alderman can advise you.

FWIW...

LOTS of bad experiences reported by locals who have dealt with Viking. I won't go there myself - your results may vary.

NOA just barely squeezes us in, but they are the launch / commissioning yard for the Endeavour Cats and handle a lot of Mantas as well. Our boat was commissioned there (2000).

Cortez also fits but is tight. None of the others in the area can take 21ft beam.

Snead Island would be an easy haul if they get the railway working again.

I hauled at Viking 3 yrs ago with our 21.5' beam. Didn't have a bad experience other than too expensive. They let me do some of my own work (not bottom painting), but I got the impression that I needed to have my work done by the time they finished painting. I was done in time so it was OK.

Anyone haul at Cortez with 21.5'. They told me that's their limit, but I'm afraid it would be too tight.

I checked out Bob & Annies a week ago and it looks like they could do 25'+ on their railroad. Since they can only handle one at a time on the railroad, I suspect they would want your work done quickly.

We need to haul this winter, so would appreciate any info on Snead Island's status. That would be a great location for us.

Also, where is NOA located and can they handle 21.5' beam? Thanks.

NOA is also on the Gandy Channel but is the first yard you come to inbound from Tampa Bay / power plant channel. Yard entrance fronts Gandy Blvd. They can handle 21ft for sure.... 21.5 probable .... 22 I'd call first

Haul out

I was told to go to Bob and Annies. They want to do the work and get you out and back in. Don't bring your own bottom paint, they make money on selling it to you. That's OK they tell you that. Don't believe they can put you on the hard (hill) it's in and out.

The rail at Snead Island is operational. They can handle a 30' beam, but the situation is much the same as at Bob and Annie's -- one boat at a time, in and out, no storage.
