Catamaran Bottom Job

Does anyone have any experiences with boatyards and bottom jobs in SW Florida or the Bahamas? I need to do the bottom again on my Manta 42 and not sure of all my options as to who can handle the 21 ft beam and experiences with the yard.

FYI, I just had both bottoms sanded to gel coat and painted with a two part epoxy barrier coat and 3 coats of Pettit Trinidad SR antifouling by Marina Seca Guaymas, Mx. I'm hoping that this bottom job lasts lots longer than the one I did myself last year!

Great idea John. Perhaps others can contribute...it sure might save people calling around to dozens of boatyards. That has become one of my concerns about buying a larger cat...where to haul it? None of my favorite yards in the SF Bay Area could haul the size of cats I am considering.

What type of epoxy barrier coat did you use? Interlux 2000 or Interlux 3000 by any chance?

I'm not sure what it was. The yard manager had procured the epoxy paint for another boat but sold us enough to do both hulls. I know you're not supposed to mix and match brands but we didn't have a way to get Pettit epoxy barrier coat. That's one reason I am hoping the paint job lasts.

You can put one brand of epoxy on the hull and have a different brand of bottom paint applied. The manufacturers like to tell you that you have to use their brand of epoxy...but bull crap. You can apply pretty much anything you want over an epoxy. I would not worry about your Pettit anti-fouling paint failing because they did not apply it over Pettit epoxy.

If in your area you cannot find a suitable boat lift just hire a crane that can do the job . it is a bit more costly but works as well.
We standard use Copper coat on all our yacths and that work good,If you need to put a layer of epoxy on your cat just purchase west system hand laminating epoxy after sanding your hull down and apply the anti fouling of your choice.

I realized today while reviewing my posts that I did not address your issue of hauling out multihulls in the SF Bay area in post #4 above. Napa Valley Marina hauls Profligate, Lattitude 38's 60+ foot cat by rail. Their web page is: Napa Valley Marina, Napa, California.

You might check out Bob & Annies Marina near Fort Myers, FL http://www.bobandannies.com/. They are catamaran specialists with a railway. Fort Lauderdale Marine Center can also haul a pretty good size cat if you are on the east coast of FL.

With all due respect, I've used Bob & Annies and would not recommend there service to anyone other than an enemy. Chris told me two to three weeks for work that he estimated to cost 17k to 18k. Three months later, and after many calls and emails, it was almost done with a current bill of 28k.
If you use them, certainly do daily checks on progress and costs as their word is no good with me.

Sorry you had a bad experience with Bob & Annies. I used them for a haulout, survey, bottom job, zincs, & saildrive maintenance just last week on a 46' cat. They got everything done in 3 days including some fiberglass repairs on the fly that were revealed by the survey. This despite the boat arriving a day late.
