Cat2Fold wins 2016 Banderas Bay Regatta!!

After three days of racing on the amazing waters of Banderas Bay, Mexico, I'm super psyched to say that Cat2Fold has won first place in the cruising catamaran category. Yesterday, in a must win situation against a very well sailed 1994 TPI Lagoon 42, with some help from the wind gods, Cat2Fold found herself coming back from nearly 8 minutes behind, about 1/2 way into the race, to finishing with a lead of 34 minutes!!! I couldn't be happier! Oh yeah, and I single handed the whole event!
Love my Cat2Fold!!!

Well done , must have been a struggle in such a large competitive fleet, especially with your light open wingdeck boat being so lively.

I'm sure this must've been sarcastic, and that's cool, but for the record...there were only three cats in the cruising class;
1-Cat2Fold-Custom Rafael Francke/KURT HUGHES Collaboration. 2005 36' x 24'. Moderately rigged Biplane cat. More or less all my sailing and racing experience has come in the past 5 years while cruising this boat. Dagger boards. I wouldn't call her lively. She is heavier than ideal. But she does go deep downwind better than most!
2-Catatude-1994 Lagoon TPI 42'. Well sailed boat by long time racers. In race two, we came into each and every mark within inches of each other, and I finished over the line first, but still 30 seconds shy of the elapsed win.
3-Nina May-Catana 431 early to mid 2000's. Dagger boards. Owners sail the boat... less than optimally.

Had I not split from Catatude at the end of the reach mark, and gained a huge amount of time back, it would have probably been they on here gloating about their awesome victory.
In my mind, it's not really about beating the other boats out there (well, maybe a little&#128522, but a battle of me against me. When I single hand, it's so easy to make so many time sapping mistakes! AND...as of a couple of months ago, my only wind instruments are telltales and a windex, which honestly, may gave helped me out. 👍🏽⛵️
When I get things pulling right, it feels amazingly good to be on my flat, magic carpet of a cat, drinking a beer, puffing my pipe and passing 45 plus footers with 15 crew hanging off the rail, working hard. I do need good wind for C2F to reach her performance potential and, for the most part, Banderas Bay provided us with some great wind!!!

Congratulations on winning. & on having fun.
you can ship the masts by yourself? in other words, how light are they?
EDIT: found this video which says 107 lb each?

Yup. 38' long. I can lift them on and off the boat and move them around all by myself.

As your blog testifies (and the race results) your sail plan etc must be working a treat. Envious. How many other boats can take the mast down in, what 15", without a crane.?

Congrats. I really like the concept of cat 2 fold, seems like it would be a good solution for many U.S. areas if they were to go into production.

Congratulations!
We aren't racers, but can certainly appreciate the effort and enjoyment - esp single handing the boat.

I always admired the rig; it's a shame it was never picked up by a manufacturer.
