Earlier in this thread someone said outboards don't charge batteries well.
Both of our Evinrudes have 50 amp alternators. That along w/ a 3K generator,a 100 amp battery charger, two 50 watt solar panels and a wind generator.
Charging batteries is the least of my concerns.

When you cruise at 7 knots at 2.5 gallons per hour are you using both engines or just one? If its 2 do you know what the gph would be at 7 knots with just one engine. I would assume it would be more economical with just one engine.

My last catamaran, a Dean 40' had the galley down. This one is up. I can say both positive and negatives about both. i guess I prefer galley up because my wife likes it better.

We run crewed charters throughout the FL Keys. My main concerns are to make sure everything on the boat works perfectly, hope nothing at breaks during a charter, pray for great weather and are we going to have enough ice for the Margaritas until our next stop.

I run both engines. at 7 knots I'm burning 1 to 1 1/4 gallons per hour each. To do 14-15knots, they burn 5-6 gallons per hour each. The helm computers have very accurate fuel flow sensors. I watch them all the time. About the same fuel flow to run 1 engine at a higher rpm to get 7 knots, so I run both lower rpm's.

I see that and want to waterski. The only negative is not visual, it is the outboards making their full throttle outboard sound. Just think how cool that throttle romp would have been with a pair of the new 33Kw Aqua-Watt outboards, and it did the same (or better) acceleration SILENTLY !!

For an added impact, winds should be < 5, and as they silently throttle up, start unfurling the headsail.

Bob, I agree. I put those Evinrudes on her 3 years ago and plan to repower in 2 years ( when the warrenty expires.) I am not familiar w/ those Aqua Watts, but I will be. I would like to put large electric motors on her along w/ a larger genset. Then power the outboards via the genset, kinda like modern day electric locomotives.

How big are the Evinrudes? The Aqua-Watt comes in two outputs, 13 KW and 22 KW, here is the 13....
