So................

Does anybody herein have a 2002 Leopard 42 that they can give me a run down of its capabilities and handling in both light and heavy weather both up and down wind and their experience with bridge deck clearance and slamming?

Oh and anything else that they would like to share.

Thanks.
Alias,

I wouldn't get too hung up on the number of hits more the posts. Will find there are a lot of monohull sailers keep watch on cat threads without contributing which can get quite heated particurly if cat bashing occurs.

There are plenty of Leopard 42/45/47's around. Don't think there is any question of their seaworthiness.

Was a 42 and 47 on the dry in Mackay marina getting hull jobs last week. Very practical well built vessel and I personally like the shaft drives preferably to sail drives. Bridge deck clearance is my only concern so I too an keen to get any feedback from owners.

The Voyage range of cats seen similar in bridge deck height. I think they might have the same designer??

Once Around The Block - Sailing with ALANA ROSE Blog of a L42 that sailed from Carribean to Aust and then around aust.

cheers

Check out the pic of Alana Rose's bridge deck clearance at rest .....

And Btw that's the Leopard 42 I have shown some interest in.

As for asking the owners about bridge deck clearance issues..........Suggest is akin to asking the Pope which is the best religion and as was mentioned by one of the members herein........Everybody loves their boat.

And my experience in life has been that 99% of the time you aren't actually told the truth by anyone until they have sold it on.......car, boat, house, whatever, even from your friends.

Ooops the cynic in me has snuck out.

AR has been sold.
Naturally one has always to sort through chaff.

That so many Leopards have travelled so many miles they can't be all bad.

Clearly the L46 designed by M&M is a better design with good Bridge Deck cleareance but comes with saildrives and a lot more money. Saw it suggested Leopard are going back to M&M for their next designs.

That's why I'm annoying you Guys!

Gathered leopards 'weren't a bad boat', question was/is, how comfortable have those many miles been ?
Noticed the blog did record some bad weather episodes.

Curious about the 'Cat rig' main..... remember there were some monos running that rig decades ago.

Any links? In case I might want to get one of those after MY Oz lotto win.

Re: Cat Bridge Deck Clearances?

Just received an email (surprised at this time of nite) from the broker with the Corsair 3600 that stated............

"What do you think about the Corsair 3600 based on the photos and information i sent.?

The owner says that the boat very seldom slams on that lower floor section.

Also letting you know that the owner just dropped the price to $199,000 for a quick sale and we already have two enquiries over this weekend"

mmmm??

Interesting Cat.....noticed the test sail showed two types of sail cloth.

Interesting below bridge deck configuration. Bridge deck appears to have good clearance..............would be interested to know what 'noises' the below deck 'bumps' made.

Also disappointed there was no below interior pics.

Info/pics were from 2012............... how many on the water?

Oh and recall the monos were called 'Fredom's" and had 2 unstayed masts.

Sounds like a salesman/broker talking.

Even if you can put up with the unusual bridgedeck arrangement you may find you need to be half mountain goat to move around that generously curvy deck.

For the same sort of money theres a nice Lightwave 35 for sale in Hillaries. I know which design I'd prefer.

Alias, what sought of boat do you want?
A sailing boat or a motorsailing boat. If you enjoy sailing you are looking up the wrong tree.
