Carbospar Aerorig on 35ft catamaran?

I just saw a 35ft catamaran built 1994 with an aerorig. Anyone here who has any experience with Carbospars Aerorig? Pros and cons? (more than it's heavier)

I'm looking for a cruising catamaran around 35-38ft.

Hello again Andreas. Looked at scattered that had it seemed interesting. Lantern wrote great things about it. There was a guy in Tx who purchased a ami 320 cat with that rig and he sued aero rig. Boat sat in litigation for years unused. They ended up buying the rig back. Don't know what his issue was but it looks like a good design.

Re: Carbospar Aerorig on 35ft catamaran?

I have been sailing a 53' Simonis custom catamaran for the last 13 years and 65,000 NM. I would never go back to a standard rig. The problems people have had in the past was when they tried to save money and take short cuts. If one looks at the overall weight of evrything needed for a standard rig including all the rubbhish of stay, shrouds, multiple winches, several sails etc it is greater than AeroRig. ( we have a sister ship with a standard rig built in the same yard and these facts are confirmed. Also if the cost is amortised over 10 years with all the replacements needed for a standard rig the price is the same. the Aerorig has a lower C of G and C of E than a standard rig. We devised the concept of in boom furling ( with manual easy controls from the cockpit and we called it the Easy Rig. the problem that occured was bad business management. Ours was built by Forespar because we could not deal with Carbospars

No personal experience but I do know of a 40' Kelsall cat in the UK and a 32'Iroquois cat in Ireland both with AeroRigs. There is also a bigger Shuttleworth cat with an AeroRig.

There is a catamaran for charter in the Chesapeake (on the Magothy) with an aero rig. It's a 45' Prout design, owners were experienced and nice.
