I'm curious if you ever had any close calls with capsizing, or just being caught out in very bad weather.

And did you have any weather forecasting method along with you? Are there any VHF weather forecasts that far south? SSB receiver? Satellite phone? Etc.

Really it was only one case when we had been caught buy "bad" weather.

It was on back way when we crossed Nassau Bay from Wollaston to Lenox.
Last hour near Lenox wasn't comfortable .

We sailed downwind with quite big(for us) waves and wind about 20-25 knots. We tugged inflatable kayak behind. One time it was flipped, but after couple seconds flipped again on the right position.

At that time both our rudders was after repairing and shorted on 20 cm.

I am all times afraid to lost control of boat on the top of waves.
I think that only one thing escaped us. Based of experience after sailing in British Columbia - Canada - 2008 on inflatable catamarans Ducky-19

and preparing to Greenland - Greenland-2011 on Ducky-19

I've implemented synchronization between rudders end engine directions - Google Translate
It was very helpful for slalom between ice blocks on low speed.

We used running engine and it worked as third rudder.

That was only one quite dangerous case.
I have one rope reefing system, furling system from Bartels with possibility to change jib on sailing time - Bartels: >> C1 + C2 - Systems

and everything worked perfect/

We had VHF radio and got weather forecast from Armada. We had SSB radio - but all our tryings to get meteo faxes from Chile or Argentina were unsuccessful. We had Garmin 76CSX with that support barometer presure plot for 48 hours.

Re: Cape Horn 2013 on inflatable catamaran Ducky 19

Lowest pressure was 965 mBar

Here you can see just a little higher
Wind in that time was more than 60 knots on gusts.

Thanks very much for sharing.
Forgive me if I missed it here but what were the air and water temperatures?

Thank you for sharing. You have an amazing amount of courage. That must have been quite the adventure. Thanks for sharing. If you are writing a book to fund your next adventure I would buy a copy. I would contact REI about getting some donations/grants for your next adventure. I don't have any connections there but you could probably get them to donate tents, kayak equipment, cold weather gear. Here is a link to their stewardship page -- Non-Profit Partnerships and Grants at REI Also try Patagonia.

Thanks a lot for this proposal, Charlie, I will remember this.
We are writing now a story about this travel, but unfortunately for you on Russian language, but you can use Google for a translation - Google Translate

Thanks again for your proposal!
Best regards,
Eduard
