Can you trailer a multihull coastal cruiser

I have been looking at Stiletto 27s. I know there are things like F-boats and other tris that cyou can put on a trailer. Probably some cats as well.

But in my Stiletto thread there was a comment about taking that boat off a trailer or putting it on a trailer is not something you would want to make a habit of.

Are there any multihulls coastal cruisers that realistically can be set up and broken down to trailer or do all of them basically need a day to perform this operation.

There is a tri that has retractable wings that is definately trailered. Most hobie cats are trailered. A big cat is going to be hard to keep under 8' beam limit.

You can trailer anything with a big enough trailer, and the proper oversized load permits.

The trick is launching it once you get there.

I don't know of much in the way of trailer cats, but it seems like a doable engineering feat if there was a big enough market. Each uma isn't that big, and cats don't need as much ballast as a mono, you just need interlocking retractable rods and trampeline to hold them together.

Corsair's set up in about 20 minutes. I'm building a MT 26 Horstman folding tri, it will set-up in about the same amount of time. Lanch at a public boat ramp any where. Enables you to travel around the country and sail when & where you want. Freedom from slips... Michael..

If you want Coastal Cruiser - Corsairs, Contours, and Dragonflys are you choices. They are also roughly listed in order of price and displacement for a given length. Use Displacement to estimate the size of the interior and carrying capacity, as they are all made of space age, light and strong stuff.

I used to crew on a Corsair F-31 that was raced extensively. Helped to trailer and set that damn thing up all over the SE US. Corsair claims something like 30 minute set-up -- this is absolute BS. Maybe with a team trained and equipped like a Formula 1 pit crew.

However, yes it can be done.

It's pretty tough to beat an F-31.Standing headroom,double berth and enclosed head. Mine only comes out of the water once in a while but it takes about an hour to drop the sails and lower the mast alone. This is complicated by a forsail furler and a solar array.The reverse is about the same. Folding and loading is childs play, maybe 15-20 minutes. Towing weight is around 6000lbs so a decent size vehicle is needed.I borrow a Ford van. Dave
