Can you trailer a multihull coastal cruiser

Folding tri's are great, There are quite a few here in Oz,

Heres a piccy of a cat on a trailer,

Its not a regular thing for a cat this size, But this cat has been transported from
Annapolis MD to Morro Bay, California, about 3000 miles,

Then from Port Stephens in NSW to Yaringa in Melbourne Vic. about 700 miles,

It can be done, But it is expensive,

Well as the new(ish)owner of the one and only Cat2Fold, I should chime in that "hell yeah my boat is a trailerable coastal cruiser! I just spent October 2011 through April 2012 trailering boat to Los Angeles from Idaho (1000 miles), sailing to Cabo San Lucas, up to La Paz, across to Puerto Vallarta, down to Manzanillo and back. It currently sits on its trailer in San Carlos, Mexico.

Have you kept the original rigs? I read that Kurt Hughes thought it could use a bit more power. Also, are you having any wear issues with the masts pivoting in their "holes". What do you call those things anyway? I always thought Cat2Fold was cool.

I am using the original rigs. Everything works quite well just the way it is. It is definitely not an over powered racer, but she's no slouch either. We did finish second place overall in the Vallarta Yacht Cup 2012.
That was with all the gear on board to live aboard for nearly 6 months...
And we have more deck space than any other cat out there, plus a king size bed nearly 5 feet above the water line to romp around in... I mean sleep in.
I've noticed no wear around the mast bases.
We can sail to weather at 8 knots and I've hit a 15.8 knot max with only the two mains up.
She is currently sitting on the trailer in San Carlos, Mexico for the low rate of $75 per month.
I can't wait to get back down there next fall and spend another winter on board.

We have a Tomcat 6.2 and it takes us a day to go through the full set up. The TC6.2 is a cruising cat but pretty rustic. It uses a camper top, porta potty and cooler for short (1-2 night) trips. I wouldn't go out on a week long trip. We're at the Jersey shore so we like it for the comfort of a day long cruise. We keep it in a local marina all summer so the comission/decommision process is just twice a year. However, it seems cheaper option than some others listed.

Check out Thomas Firth Jones several books in particular "Multihull Voyaging". He designed a couple of cats and tri's some for trailering and has some good observations about trailering and both tris and cats. Owning a 36 foot cat it made me rethink how i approached sailing my boat. MarkH

Here's a demountable and trailerable 41' cat. You might need a big truck. The specs are interesting. Seems like a well built boat. And the price is right.

If it can break down it can be towed on a trailer... this is a Tiki 21 I owned but have done it with a Tiki 26. The trailers were made to measure...

I've set up a corsair 25, not mine. I never took us less than an hour to set up.

Even my Potter takes me over an hour to set up, and I can lift my mast by hand.

OTH : the corsair is trailerable and fast but not roomy, my Potter is slow, but sleeps four. Neither has standing head room, but the Corsair I was on had a pop-top for the cook.
