In the UK, You cannot hire a barrister per se, you hire a solicitor who MAY decide that he needs to engage a barrister, then the solicitor will brief the Barrister who may either supply specialist legal advise and/or represent you in court.

What you need is a solicitor who is a specialist in UK marine law to start with, it should never get to the Barrister stage and as other hasve said the Royal Yachting Association is a very good starting place, it may be worth joining and then you could have access to their legal team
