Bridle Hook

I have a heavy duty Wichard brand chain hook on my bridle. It has a spring retaining pin. Unfortunately the pin bends and sticks and can be difficult to remove. I've adjusted the pin numerous times but inevitably after some use it gets bent again and is becoming a pain.

What does everybody use?

I've been using the wichard chain hook you have, but having the same problems. I'm about to try using a soft shackle. Here is a detailed write-up from someone who has experimented with different approaches: http://www.bethandevans.com/pdf/snubber.pdf

Mark,

Like the idea of the soft shackle. I gave a couple so I may give that a try.

The Mantus Chain Grabber looks good but not available in Australia as far as I can see.

Bridle Hook

I have had good results with this hook that is 10mm stainless steel. They are AU $26.95. The heaviest boat I have used this with was on a 46 foot flybridge game fisher that was 23 tons & in winds up to 30 knots.

Key Benefits & Features:
For use in conjunction with a nylon springer to reduce the unpleasant shock loads associated with all-chain anchoring. The hook is designed to fit between the links of chain while the clevis pin arrangement allows for easy attachment of the springer. Made from cast 316 stainless steel.

Have also used this snap on passage from St Marten & across the Pacific on a 60 foot cat. This one is AU $99.95.

Re: Bridle Hook

I used the Winchard hook for a couple of seasons, but ran into the same problems with the pin. Have been using this hook for the past three seasons. Works much better, although I've started using a rolling hitch as well.

Re: Bridle Hook

We tried a number of hooks and here is what we found working for us. Unfortunately, I cannot remember the name of this hook.

Gotta say I am using the old, but I may get a new. Just wondering what the advantage is.
