Re: Best place to store a cat ashore in Florida for the hurricane season

Here is another possible consideration to make the decision harder. What is your insurance company's position.

When we got a quote from old ins co for next year the premium for having boat south of Florida in the summer was double that if we were not south of St Mary's, GA. Don't plan on putting on the hard so not sure if they would back off if not in the water but it didn't seem so. Premiums were double with old company if not north of Florida. Never checked with new co since we are going to take it north and it was quite a bit cheaper for the same coverage.

In our case the premium savings would have easily covered the cost of moving the boat north.

Yes, I believe there is. Sorry I was not aware of the height of your mast.

While I admit I don't know how large they were. There was at least two on the beach while I was in there last year. Or perhaps I am thinking about another yard, because I was also in Harbor Town! It's hell to get old.

Best place to store a cat ashore in Florida for the hurricane season

I'm about three miles on a straight shot from Riverside marina, which is a full service/DIY yard. Big cats are easily handled. Telcom for facts. Yard begins to fill up now for DIYs. Big yard, nothing fancy (no bar, etc) but convenient to grocery store, CVS, and some eateries. Yes, they store big cats.

Indiantown height restrictions are: 55' from the west and 49' from the east.

The height restrictions would actually be 49' if coming from the west and 54' if coming from the east.

You have it backwards, and it is 55' not 54'

Maybe I wasn't very clear. Going from the west coast of Florida to Indiantown the lowest clearance is 49'. Going from the east coast of Florida to Indiantown the lowest clearance is 54'.The Palm City bridge is charted at 54' not 55'.

The bridge heights on the west side are also lower than the charts indicate in the ft Myers area when going to labelle. Of course the 49' also varies with lake level. I believe it is closer to 54' on the E and there is very little tide near those bridges.

Not trying to be argumentative but I live near Labelle and have been out both ways. I stand my original post.

Re: Best place to store a cat ashore in Florida for the hurricane season

Indian town is east of the railroad bridge. I have hit the first bridge (gently) in Ft Myers on a noon moon low tide with exactly a 56.5' mast. The newer steel repaired section is even lower than the old concrete section. Chart shows it as 55' at high water. It is barely 55' at normal low.
