Bali - Catana's new range of cruising catamarans

Was at the Barcelona boat show yesterday and Catana showed a 45 foot cruising catamaran. Catana is launching a new brand "Bali", and the 45 foot is their first boat in what is planned to be a range of boats.

According to the sales guy, where Catana will be their performance/premium brand, Bali will be targeting the market currently served by Lagoon/FP/Leopard, and will be priced at par with them. Minikeels, less expensive materials, etc, so its their budget brand so to say.

The 45 foot boat had some interesting features:

- You can have it either as "Flybridge" or "Bimini".

- The whole front is fiberglass, ie no netting between the hulls. There is a giant sunbathing area and aft a front cockpit much bigger than the L450. This is like a whole livable area for being in the sun

- One large section of the front window (probably 3 meters/10 feet wide) slides down opens up the area between the front and saloon.

- Similar to modern monohulls, there is an aft platform which folds down making the aft of the cockpit without obstruction for open feeling and additional space.

The rest of pretty much like a Helia. The Lagoon 450 lying next looked very dated.

They have a webpage Bali Catamarans. Check it out.

When I got home I found an even more interesting boat on their webpage, their planed 42 foot. The whole salon and cockpit is one space similar to the Seawind, but different and in my view much better. The Galley/Nav is along the front of the saloon (remember you can open the window to the front. There is no normal saloon table/couch but a huge cockpit table/seating that extends far forward. Then there seems to be a way to enclose the whole thing all the way to the back of the boat leaving just an area to walk across.

Rest is similar to the 45 foot boat above.

This one seems very promising. In my view, the ideal charter cat. I like it.

Thanks for this. I fell in love with the design when I viewed it.

The Catana Bali 4.5 has SO MANY of the FP Helia 44 design elements.

Then they added more great design elements on top of that. They will sell lots of these. It’s a very nice design.

Wonder what the handling differences will be with the boom being higher on one of the designs.

We have never been big fans of the "Flybridge" Catamarans.
With a "Flybridge" design you have a big disconnect with captain at the helm and crew down below. Sails are typically harder to stow, but will most likely be the same size by using a taller mast or a longer boom.

My wife likes to cook and talk to me at the helm so the "Bimini" catamaran works better for our type of cruising. The sail is lower and very easy to stow.

Instinctively I disconnected from the flybridge positioning.
Waiting to see more info.

My wife and I prefer the fly bridge. Much nicer to sit there together, often with several friends too, and enjoy the superior view while underway.

That is why 2 versions are being offered, for those that do and those that dont like it.

A clever decision by the men who know........

Those steps on the 4.2 look so wrong!

I kinda like the steps. Has a feel of a big ship about it.

I DONT like all the sharp edges everywhere. Designer madness with no understanding of the marine world.... Seems the guy in the video didnt like it either....

I also didn't like the sharp corners as well as a lot of other things but it should do well in today's market.

I must say I quite like the look of the "loft like" interiors. They give the feeling of space, air, light. Quite sharp edges are the part of this styling.
I felt that on catamaran it is possible to accept them TO SOME EXTENT.
But on monos it is pure craziness!!!!!!!!!
