Re: Awlgrip or Gelcoat?

Our last boat we went with Awlgrip and that was over 5 years ago. On our new boat we used Awlcraft instead because we were going to be doing some changes to the hull and Awlcraft can be faired in. Click image for larger version

Doing awlgrip on mine... It's some great stuff. In regards to lasting like gelcoat, we've had some boats with 10 yr awlgrip on it that still had a shine. Click image for larger version

This is just the awlgrip 585 primer (which is awesome primer for anything!) on my boat that was shot two days ago at our yard. Getting the topcoat this weekend or Monday depending on weather.

DIY awlgrip? If you can spray with a pot sprayer or the like then go for it. Get the right reducer for spray. If not, you can roll and tip it. Get a good (usually expensive brush) and the brushing reducer so it will lay out. Brushing dry to wet after you roll.

You need a remote air supplied hood to spray 2 pack polyurethane. If you want to stay healthy.

You don't need that that is seriously overkill, a regular mask with organic filters and a pre filter will do just fine. You can get a full face to protect your eyes.

Wow, 585! Is that some kind of super secret superior version of 545?

Re: Awlgrip or Gelcoat?

What do you do in between coats of top coating. Do you hand sand or use machine?
